comments on rape 'story'

In response to the few comment s(anonymous, which i don’t know is who and fun cheong=p) from the previous post, I would like to quote out some things that i've read in the book" Sex Slaves in Asia' by Louise Brown.

Legitimate sexuality, at least for women, is found only in marriage. The cult of virginity is so strong in Philipino Catholicsm.A girl who is raped or has pre-marital relationship that turns sour, will frequently be burdened with the shame of no longer being a virgin. For some of these girls it is a shame that leaves them no option other than to be a prostitute because they honestly believe that they are no longer worthy enough to become the wife of a decent man.

In highly traditional societies, the rape of a woman can lead to a destruction of self esteem.Women may therefore accept prostitution as their way of life because they cannot escape from the psychological prison created by their experience of rape and of it's associated shame.

Initially, the trauma of rape and the devastating consequences that flow from it can sometimes bind the girl to her rapist. In other words, he creates the prostitute and then he profitrs from her.

In the most sexually and gender repressive societies in Asia, rape is an initiation into prostitution. A raped girl is unable to marry because she is no longer a virgin. Such women resort to sex work because it is the only form and work available to them and because they cannot survive as a single woman.

Unmarried mothers and victims of rape from another small but significant category. They are significant because apart from being the victims of awful personal tragedies, their face reveals some unhappy truths about South Asian societies.

In msia, virgin girls who have not yet reached puberty carry a premium.12 to 15 is considered the best age.

Virginity and chastity are central to the dominant strands in Asia's value systems. The Korean proverb' Chastity for a woman is more precious than life' sums this up perfectly

NOTE: It’s not that easy for a rape victim to report to the police n stuff liddat. She'll have to relive the trauma, get checkups, lots of red tape involved.n.the worst part is, there's no evidence.yes, there'll be bruising n stuff but no DNA evidence.EVERYTHING is based on evidence and in some states, u'll need 4 just good men to be witnesses, which brings us to the question, if they are so just and good, why didn't they stop the rape from taking place then? Why should men be allowed to wildyly sow their seed before marriage n no one will bat an eyelid, yet women must be as untainted and 'pure' as possible in order not to be labelled as DAMAGED GOODS? Why are they goods in the first place?

TO would-be flamers: I am not trying to promote promiscuity here but it is IMHO that ppl shouldnt have some virgin fetish, esp. guys that have been sleeping around.Staying a virgin should be a matter of choice, not by force. If ur a virgin guy, then u could prolly demand that ur wife is equally in that sense(but why should you?it’s just a piece of membrane), but otherwise, "let he who is without sin, cast the first stone” nuff said.
